The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marked a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrated its 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health and social services for our community.

About the Opportunity

The role of the Mental Health General Practitioner is primarily to provide general clinical services and specialist mental health services to the Aboriginal Community.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high standard GP assessments of Aboriginal clients experiencing physical and mental health issues.
  • Actively communicate and coordinate with other VAHS GPs, allied health professionals and specialist services when engaged in multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Refer patients to other providers both within VAHS and / or external as appropriate.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records and documentation
  • Adhere to the VAHS AGPAL accreditation program, processes and policies.
  • Participate in the implementation and ongoing review and revision of a comprehensive clinical governance framework for the organisation.
  • Maximise Medicare Billings / claims through effective and timely Clinic patient records processes.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum 5 years General Practitioner experience with Vocational Registration (RACGP, FRACGP, FACRIRM or equivalent)
  • Current unconditional registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
  • Eligible for Medicare Provider Number
  • Comply with VAHS Immunisation Policy and various infection control policy and procedures.
