About us

The Victorian Women’s Trust (VWT) is looking for up to 3 new members for our Board as we embark on our next phase of change making and organisational sustainability. Our Board is committed to inclusion, respect of diversity, and values individual strengths, perspectives and experiences.

Established in 1985, the VWT is a proudly independent feminist organisation, supporting women, girls and gender diverse people to thrive. Our vision is Full gender equality = a world where all women, girls, and gender diverse people take up all of life’s opportunities with respect, safety and dignity.

We create social change projects and campaigns; conduct research on the issues affecting our communities; run thought-provoking events; provide mentorship opportunities; and give grants to vital grassroots projects.

Our advocacy work focuses on three high impact areas: economic security, health and safety, and equal representation. Creating change in these areas is key to achieving true gender equality.

About you

Appointments will be informed by our Board skills and diversity matrix. As such we are looking for individuals with:

  • A commitment to gender equality and bringing about real and lasting change

  • Critical and strategic thinking and effective decision-making
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A collaborative and positive attitude

As well, you will bring expertise and/or experience in one or some of the following areas:

  • Strong financial and accounting expertise
  • Demonstrated financial management skills and ability to interpret and interrogate financial information
  • Legal qualifications and experience
  • Understanding of corporate governance, regulatory processes and risk management
  • Policy advocacy especially in the digital era
  • Crisis management
  • Understanding of the philanthropic sector and donor relationships
  • Experience or knowledge of relevant sectors and networks

About the role

Board appointments are for an initial 3-year term with the option for reappointment for a further 2 terms. Board appointments are voluntary.

Board members are expected to commit the time and willingness to:

  • Attend 6 scheduled board meetings annually (a mix of in-person and virtual)
  • Participate in at least one board committee (committee meetings are held virtually)
  • Attend one in-person strategic retreat per year
