The Western Australian Prison Officers Union is seeking a highly motivated Organiser based in Perth.

About the Organisation

The Western Australian Prison Officers Union (WAPOU) is a member focused union representing Prison Officers working in Western Australia’s prisons in both Metropolitan and Regional locations.

The Union is in the midst of strong growth and requires an experienced organiser with Industrial and Occupational Safety and Health knowledge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a local branches advising delegates on a variety of local and State-wide issues.
  • Ensure individuals and branches contribute to achieving the objectives of the Union and assist with retaining union members, membership growth, member leadership and action and winning industry power.
  • Maintain and develop industrial knowledge across WAPOU Branches.
  • Other duties associated with ensuring a high standard is maintained to provide assistance to Union members.
  • Ensure that the Union’s values are upheld and promoted.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Demonstrates:

  • A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieve the goals of the Union
  • Ability in using legislation, awards and agreements to enforce member’s rights and entitlements
  • A solid knowledge and understanding of the Australian industrial relations environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team

To perform this job you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • Right of Entry Permits.
  • Police clearance.

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience (indicative range $80,000 to $95,000)
  • Fully maintained Vehicle includes some personal use
  • 11% superannuation
  • 5 weeks annual leave following each 12 months of continuous service increasing to 6 weeks per year after four years.
  • 13 weeks Long Service Leave after 7 years continuous service
  • Generous other leave and conditions.
