ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join the vibrant team at WASH House in an entry level role as a Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Case Worker. This is an Identified Role working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women, with or without children, in the Blacktown Local Government Area (LGA).

The entry level DFSV Caseworker role will deliver culturally responsive support services to Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander women, working under the supervision and guidance of qualified case workers. A core component of the role is to undertake studies and work towards achieving qualifications relevant to the role. This will be supported by flexible working arrangements.

We are seeking a passionate Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander woman looking to further her career in the community services sector and with a commitment to improving the lives of Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander women and children and making a difference in our community.

This is a full-time role based in Mount Druitt, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm or 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Essential CRITERIA

  • This is an Identified Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Entry level Qualifications in social and community services or related discipline such as Certificate IV or experience in social and community work such as volunteer work experience.
  • Willingness to complete tertiary qualification in Community Services at diploma/degree level.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence and how these issues impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander women and their families.
  • Demonstrated connections to the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander community in Western Sydney or ability to develop strong linkages and connections
  • Interest in working with people impacted by Domestic and Family violence.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Trauma-informed care and Client-Centred care.
  • Knowledge/ understanding of culturally appropriate practice/service provision.
  • Excellent communication skills, Interpersonal skills and capability to establish and maintain relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to practice self-reflection, recognising skill limitations and seek support when necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cohesively within a team.
  • Capability to work independently on learnt tasks and processes.
  • Capability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Understanding and commitment to feminist principles and values.
  • Computer and internet skills.
  • Current driver’s licence and own vehicle.

Desirable:

  • Diploma/degree level qualification in community Services.
  • Previous experience in the Not For Profit sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people impacted by Domestic and Family violence.

The WASH House considers being a woman a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
