wayss is the largest provider of homelessness, housing and family violence services in the South East Melbourne area. We exist so people can live a life free from family violence and have access to safe, sustainable and affordable housing. Our vision is to be the major provider of social housing services and leading edge client support programs in the Southern Melbourne Metropolitan region.

We deliver funded services and programs across the South East of Melbourne including the local government areas of Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Casey and Cardinia.

About the role

The Women’s Outreach program sits within Homelessness and Housing and supports women to bring about positive outcomes that promote growth and stability to assist the individual and/ her family to reach their full potential.

Reporting to the Team Leader Housing Support-Women and Families, the Case Manager, Women’s Outreach Program provides client centered, strength base case management support for women with multiple and varying complex needs that significantly impact their lives and that of any accompanying children. Complex needs of women may include long term homelessness; drug and/alcohol dependency; previous experience of family violence; parenting issues; financial and/ legal issues; support for mental and physical health; complex cultural needs. All women in the Women’s Outreach Program typically have an experience of significant trauma in their lives.

Duties include:

  • Assessing the women’s housing and social support needs.
  • Developing a support plan with women.
  • Undertaking case management.
  • Assessing the women’s immediate situation, safety risk and support needs using the MARAM Risk Assessment tool.
  • Referring women to appropriate support agencies and organizations.
  • Providing advocacy and support activities such as:
    • Culturally appropriate support for women facing specific barriers.
    • Promoting the rights, responsibilities, and dignity of women.
  • Other reasonable duties as requested.

About you

You will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social or Behavioral Science, Psychology, or other relevant discipline, at degree level or above.
  • Relevant experience working in the community services sector.
  • Working knowledge of crisis and long-term housing options for single women and women with children.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in:
    • Responding to requests for service.
    • Family Violence risk assessment.
    • Comprehensive client needs assessment.
    • Case management.
    • Safety planning.
    • Facilitating referrals to other support organizations.
    • Providing advocacy and support.
    • Working autonomously and under limited direction.
  • The ability to work with women who have multiple, complex needs who are sometimes difficult to engage.
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting women to access the legal system, counselling, parenting support, Drug and Alcohol and/ Mental Health supports.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to improving service delivery and practice.
  • Ability to relate positively and confidently with people from all walks of life, in a variety of settings.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills to effectively respond to women in crisis and who have experienced significant trauma.
  • Computer skill, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

This role requires a current Driver’s Licence and valid Working With Children Check clearance. The candidate will need to have successfully completed wayss’ pre-employment screening and a police check.
