About Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter:

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter provides safety, security and practical assistance to women experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness. We support women to rebuild their lives. Our services include crisis accommodation, long term accommodation for women over 55 (Beecroft House), and outreach support. We are one of nine shelters that operate under the banner of Women’s Community Shelters.

About the ROLE:

We are recruiting a Volunteer & Donations Coordinator to join our supportive shelter team. Reporting to the General Manager, working in consultation with the Shelter Lead, this role manages volunteers at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, as well as physical donations to HKWS and Beecroft House.

This position is largely remote/ working from home and supports the delivery of the HKWS Wellbeing Program, supporting and empowering clients in our care, and ensures volunteers work effectively with shelter staff to make sure key objectives of the program are met. It is a part time 12 month contract, with a total of 12 hours per week, ideally split across multiple days.

This role is classified as Social and Community Services Employee - Level 3 position within the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHADS Award). The minimum base rate on offer is in line with the Social and Community Services Employee - Level 3, Pay Point 1.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the recruitment and onboarding of eligible and appropriately skilled volunteers to HKWS.
  • Maintaining contact list and compliance documents for current and prospective volunteers. Timely response to all volunteer enquiries.
  • Regular and effective communication with all volunteers, including weekly distribution of volunteer roster for HKWS Wellbeing Program.
  • Identify volunteer gaps and opportunities and raise with the General Manager as needed, support in establishing an effective feedback system for volunteers.
  • Management of all physical donation enquiries to HKWS - accepting or redirecting items as required. Thanking donors appropriately.
  • Coordinating the pick up/drop off of these items to HKWS and Beecroft House.
  • Maintaining the shelter’s physical donation wish list and prompting call-outs as needed.
  • Effective communication with community stakeholders regarding both volunteering and physical donation opportunities to shelter.

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the promotion of women’s rights and wellbeing, as well as working from a social justice framework with a sensitivity to cross-cultural issues.
  • Experience in people management and working with volunteers.
  • Ability to relate well with a wide range of people from various backgrounds.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills within the service and broader community.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and polite manner.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise workload with excellent time management.
  • Ability to work independently off-site, whilst also collaborating as a team.
  • Computer literate, ideally experienced in the Google Suite.
  • Current NSW driver’s license, Police Check and Working with Children Check.
  • The right to live and work in Australia.
