Manager Intake and Assessment

The shared role of Intake and Assessment Manager will work across a rotating roster taking into account Safe Steps’ 24/7 crisis service to lead a team who delivers services of high quality, and in line with the Code of Practice for Specialist Family Violence Services and the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework.

This will be undertaken through effective leadership of the day-to-day functions of, on-site monitoring and allocation of tasks, to the Intake and Assessment Team over a 24/7 period with an expectation to be available weekends and after hours.

You must be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Meets equivalency principles of Recommendation 209
  • Bachelor of Social Work, Social Science or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in the field of violence against women, human rights, social justice, law reform or general advocacy
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and supporting a team
  • Extensive understanding and application in the context of crisis response
  • Completion of the Multi Agency Risk Assessment (MARAM) Framework training and a demonstrated understanding of its application in the context of Crisis Services or the willingness to undergo training at employment start
  • Willingness to commit to the living expression of Safe Steps values; courageous, feminist, empowering, ethical respectful, collaborative, reflective.
  • Demonstrated understanding of feminist practice and how this is used as a framework to understand and respond to the gendered nature of violence against women and children
  • Demonstrated experience in providing administrative and clinical supervision to a team of community-based service workers
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural and language barriers, disability and other factors that may further marginalise clients in crisis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the effects of family violence on children and an ability to conduct a comprehensive family risk assessment that gives priority to the safety of children
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to deal appropriately with stress, maintain composure and apply effective engagement strategies with clients in crisis
  • Experience or demonstrated commitment to 24-hour service delivery and the ability to provide an on-call after-hours response on a roster basis
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
  • Completed Covid 19 vaccinations

Desirable

  • Substantial experience in a leadership role within a social services setting working from a strength-based client-centred framework
  • Familiarisation with a range of information technology applications including SHIP and Mitel
  • Knowledge of, and established relationships within the Victorian Integrated Family Violence System
  • Relevant training in clinical supervisions and team leadership

Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.
