Position purpose

The Safety and Equality Practitioner is responsible for developing tools, strategies and education programs that build migrant and refugee women's capacity to live life free from violence. This includes raising awareness on tech-facilitated abuse.

Main tasks

  • Design and deliver programs and strategies that raise awareness among migrant and refugee women on gender equality, family violence and respectful relationships
  • Promote gender equality and women's safety widely to reach out to isolated women
  • Use co-design principles and approaches to produce materials and resources that build women's knowledge and skills to adopt measures that eliminate the risks of becoming victims of technology abuse
  • Attend and contribute to relevant networks and forums working towards combating tech-facilitated abuse
  • Participate in relevant Communities of Practice and promote Wellsprings work
  • Build alliances with relevant networks and forge potential collaboration
  • Keep abreast with data, emerging issues and new developments related to family violence and gender equality
  • Organise and promote events that are relevant to women’s issues
  • Document, evaluate and report

Other Duties

  • Research and prepare training sessions and workshops relating to gender equality, and respectful relationships
  • Outreach to women's groups to expand Wellsprings' education reach on gender equality and tech facilitated abuse
  • Attend relevant networks and sector meetings
  • Promote Wellsprings' role in promoting gender equality among migrant and refugee women
  • Attend relevant Communities of Practice
  • Supervise students on placement
  • Fullfil other duties as required by Manager

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in social sciences, gender studies or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience in working with migrant and refugee women
  • Experience in using technology and on line packages
  • Understanding of the community services sector and the challenges of working with limited resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Microsoft Office packages
  • Understanding of feminist frameworks

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the Family Violence Federal and State policies
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Family Violence services sector
  • Deep understanding of the risks faced by migrant and refugee women in becoming victims of tech-facilitated abuse
  • Full understanding of intersectionality and trauma informed practice
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures

Other (Essential)

  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Driver's Licence and access to own car (due to outreach aspects of the role)

Other (Desirable)

  • Fluency in a language other than English relevant to our target population

Salary information

This role is for 3 days a week and is classified in accordance with our Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres Enterprise Bargaining Agreement , hourly rate of $36.46 per hour plus 11.5 % superannuation and up to $16,000 per year salary packaging.
