About the organisation

The West Moonah Community Action Group encompasses the West Moonah Neighbourhood House, Community Preschool, Community Garden and Community Shed and is part of the Tasmanian Neighbourhood Houses Network. The organisation is a not-for-profit Incorporated Association with ACNC charity status. The Association provides opportunities for community members to participate in education, information sharing, social activities, recreation, support and referral.

About the role

Do you have a strong sense of community and believe in the vital role of Neighbourhood Houses and their ability to build social connection? Due to a casual vacancy, we are seeking a new Voluntary Board Member to actively contribute to the ongoing governance of the organisation. Board or senior management experience in a corporate or not-for-profit setting is desirable but not essential.

The Constitution makes provision for a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 Board members. The casual vacancy available for appointment, will be up to our next AGM scheduled in August 2024. The Board member will be eligible to nominate for election at the AGM for a two-year tenure.

Currently, the Board meets face-to-face, a minimum of 10 times per year, on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 pm for 2-3 hours. There is some work required between meetings, so the ongoing commitment is approximately 3-5 hours per month across the year.

Essential criteria:

  1. National Police Certificate & Working with Vulnerable People Registration
  2. Resident of Tasmania

  • Governance
  • Legal
  • Accounting/Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Business Management
  • Quality Management
  • Strategic development

Individual Board Members are not expected to have detailed knowledge in all areas listed but in a selection of areas that complement other Board Members, ensuring the Board possess skills in all key knowledge areas.
