The People Services Manager will work closely with the Head of People, Senior Leadership Team, employees and volunteers to deliver the Strategic People Plan by leading HR and cultural change practices that enable Wildlife Victoria to meet its operational and strategic goals. This includes overseeing the entire employment lifecycle comprising, for example, workforce planning, recruitment and induction, employee relations/performance management and wellbeing/safety.

This important role supports both our people and Victoria’s incredible wildlife, having maximum impact within a niche organisation that is critical to the future of our creatures in peril!

About You:

You must have the following credentials/experience to be considered for this role:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources Management/Employee Relations/Employment Law
  • Minimum 5-8 years senior experience in an HR or employee relations role working across the operational HR areas identified for the position including recruitment & retention, employee grievances, performance and misconduct management, health and safety (including case management of Workcover claims and the impact of medical conditions on employment) and other HR business partnering areas
  • Current Right to Work within Australia with full working rights

To be successful in this role, you will also need to demonstrate the following capabilities:

  • Highly developed relationship building, communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • The ability to manage and resolve confidential and complex people issues thoughtfully, sensitively and with all risks minimised
  • An engaging, caring, mature and supportive leadership style with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead through adversity and develop people to their full potential
  • Strong competency in leading change and managing calmly through ambiguity, crisis and complexity
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills and proven ability to engage effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Work well in a fast-paced environment, paying attention to detail whilst handling a high-volume workload
  • Be open to feedback and coaching
  • Demonstrate patience and empathy towards people in difficult/potentially traumatic situations.

The following are highly desirable:

  • A genuine interest in wildlife
  • Understanding of the not-for-profit / community context is beneficial including exposure to managing a volunteer workforce

About the Role

  • HR policy and practice management and maintenance.
  • Assist managers, team members and volunteers on all matters relating to employment/volunteering.
  • Undertake all operational HR activities including recruitment, induction, events, cultural change programs, learning and development and volunteer-related programs/engagement.
  • Manage all workforce/employee relations issues and grievances including performance management, conduct-related matters and workplace investigations.
  • Wellbeing, health and safety portfolio including case management.
  • Administration/maintenance of payroll-related and other employee records/data.
  • Implement and conduct coaching/leadership activities for WV’s workforce/leaders.
  • Drive a positive, collaborative culture with thoughtful interventions to manage change and embed our values.
