Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre is a NSW state-wide community legal centre for Aboriginal women, children and youth. The Centre has a strong focus on assisting victims of violence. Our office is located in metropolitan Sydney at 142 Addison Road, Building 13, Marrickville NSW 2204.

We are seeking applications for a para-legal position at our Centre.

Term of contract

The position is to start as soon as is possible and finishes on Friday, 27 June 2025.

The position is located in our Marrickville office.

Rate of pay

SCHADS award: Level 5, paypoint 1 -3

Note salary sacrificing is available.

Position

• Full-time para-legal – 35 hours pw. Note we will consider applicants who are interested in 28 hours pw.
• Hours 9-5
• Duties include:
  • Taking instructions from clients on the advice line and in person 
  • Assisting legal staff with casework under the supervision of the Principal Solicitor (and other senior solicitors when required)
  • Working with our Aboriginal Casework specialists when clients have non-legal needs under the supervision of the CEO
  • Assisting with any community legal education (CLE) and law reform activities as required under the supervision of the CEO and Principal Solicitor (note that CLE work may on occasion require weekend work and overnight rural travel)
• The position is female identified and Aboriginal women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience

We are seeking applicants with any experience in and/or knowledge of the following areas of law:

• Victims Support
• Domestic Violence
• Sexual Assault 
• Family law
• Child Protection law

Law graduates are preferred but we will consider final year law students who are able to work the requisite hours.
