About Women Illawarra:

Established in 1979, we are a Not for Profit community organisation run by women, for women. Our vision is a world where all women feel safe, valued, respected and have a sense of belonging. Through our services, supports and programs, we work to empower women and children in the Illawarra. www.womenillawarra.org.au

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified women for the position of board member at Women Illawarra.

Role Overview:

Board members contribute to the governance and strategic oversight of Women Illawarra.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance: Ensure the organisation complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Strategic Oversight: Contribute to developing and monitoring strategic plans, ensuring the organisation remains focused on its mission and objectives.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Act as an ambassador for the organisation, promoting its services and advocating for the empowerment of women
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other board members and the executive team, providing support and constructive insight

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in a governance role or as a board member.
  • Strong understanding of the not-for-profit sector and/or women’s issues
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: community services, finance, law, fundraising, community development, public policy, or project management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting gender equality and women. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to high-level decision-making.
