Role Description

The Women's Club is seeking a temporary part-time Finance Officer (parental leave cover 12 months) to join our small, dedicated team in Sydney.

The Finance Officer drives the company's day-to-day financial operations and prepares regular reports for the CEO, the Board and its Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. This includes but not limited to the following areas of business: hospitality both restaurant and accommodation, membership and subscriptions, events and a writers' festival.

The successful applicant will have Xero and Microsoft Excel experience; will be highly motivated and organised; will have an analytical and systems-operated mind with excellent attention to detail.

An understanding of the arts and culture, member-based associations/organisations and/or not-for-profit sector is preferred but not essential.

The Women's Club (TWC) is a historic Sydney institution established by women for women in 1901. TWC provides a welcoming space for all women active in the community, the professions, arts and public life, to advance, connect and engage. TWC offers its members rich cultural experience, stylish dining, accommodation and opportunities for networking and friendship in Sydney overlooking Hyde Park.

Duties

The Finance Officer drives the company’s day-to-day financial operations and provides critical support to the CEO the Board and its Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee. This is a temporary replacement position for twelve months and offers opportunities for professional development, including shadowing the FAR Committee and assisting with strategic planning and audits.

Financial Operations

  • Quotes and Invoicing
  • Recording of receipts and payments into Xero system
  • Reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts, including Braintree, PayPal and Stripe
  • Reconciliation of debtors, creditors and inventory subsidiary ledgers
  • Processing of fortnightly payment runs
  • Posting of journal entries where necessary

Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual management financial reports as requested including Cash flow Statements, Profit and Loss, Forecasts and Budgets and papers to the Board
  • GST accounting, including preparation and lodgment of BAS/IAS statements
  • Assist in updating financial forecasts and reviewing the 2026 budget in collaboration with the CEO
  • Preparation of the financial year-end work papers for The Women’s Club’s auditor
  • Prepare end of year payroll reconciliations and payment summaries
  • Liaise with ATO regarding GST and other compliance matters

Payroll and Entitlements

  • Execute payroll runs and monitor employee entitlements
  • Ensure compliance with employment obligations and reporting

Strategic support

  • Assist with the annual audit process
  • Support Strategic initiatives, including budget control, and club costing, as well as operational and system improvements

Governance and Professional Development

  • Shadow the Finance, Audit, and Risk (FAR) Committee and take meeting minutes
  • Provide administrative support to the FAR committee

Other

  • Manage and process all daily accounting tasks as required
  • Digital and hard copy filing, datafile backups
  • Support the CEO in the provision of information to the Treasurer and the FAR Committee.

Remuneration is based on experience and skill set, 1.0 FTE pro-rata.
