ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland Ltd (WHEQ) is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance the wellbeing of all women in Queensland. We have a women’s centre in Stones Corner which provides services to women affected by gender-based violence. We work with the community, government and businesses to advance women’s health and gender equity, and promote diversity and inclusion.

WHEQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan. We work with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female. We are a pro-choice organisation that applies an intersectional feminist lens to our work.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of programs and professional education designed to create healthier, safer and more equal communities for women in Qld. As a leadership role, the Senior Practitioner will coordinate, oversee and report on the work across the Health and Equality Team, and provide guidance and support to other staff. Knowledge and expertise in the field of Health, Gender Equity &/or Primary Prevention of Violence will be highly advantageous, as will strong communication and planning skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. You will be accountable for:

Working in collaboration with other staff to:

  • Identify and foster collaborative and beneficial relationships with diverse stakeholders across the state. This will include people from diverse communities, government, health, police and community organisations.
  • Partner with women, other service providers, stakeholders and researchers to identify gaps and develop programs, education and training.
  • Engage new audiences in the delivery of WHEQ education, training, services and supports.
  • Deliver education and training to diverse stakeholders on topics areas such as gendered violence, women’s health and wellbeing, primary prevention of violence and gender equality.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, review and evaluation of programs. Undertaking and implementing quality improvement measures.
  • Prepare program budgets, monitor expenditure, reconcile and report on budgets.
  • Supervise and support other employees in the Health and Equality Team
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles, current research and effective and ethical work practices.
  • Develop WHEQ information and education resource material, contribute to social media communications, organise and manage education and training events.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports.
  • Ensure compliance to all contractual obligations and including meeting all KPIs.
  • Identify and engage philanthropic or corporate partners, and prepare and submit funding and grant applications.

ABOUT YOU

Our ideal candidate will have skills and experience in all of the following areas, but as we recognise transferrable skills, please submit an application if you hold expertise in two or more of the following areas:

  • community development and engagement
  • public health / women’s health
  • primary prevention of violence / gender equity / diversity and inclusion practices
  • education and training delivery, development and evaluation.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Bachelor or post graduate degree, plus a minimum of 3 years professional experience.
  • Is a strong and strategic communicator
  • Has a high level of knowledge of current clinical and/or social women’s health issues, and knowledge of the impacts and drivers of gendered violence.
  • Has experience working with women who have experienced trauma.
  • Has a strong understanding of issues relating to service delivery that promote socially and culturally inclusive practices including a demonstrated understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities, and marginalised or disadvantaged groups.
  • Has the capacity and willingness to participate in the delivery of services in rural/remote parts of Queensland, which though the position is based in Brisbane, will occasionally be required.

This Position Description provides the minimum requirements for the role. Extra duties may be required as requested by your direct line manager.

You may be required to work hours outside the normal work hours at varying locations. You will be compensated for any additional costs associated with working outside normal work hours in line with the SCHADS Award and National Employment Standards and WHQ Policies and Procedures.
