Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ) are leaders in women’s health, gender equality, and the primary prevention of violence. We are a not-for-profit organisation that has been improving health outcomes for women for over 40 years. Our vision is to create a world where women and girls are equitably resourced, healthy, safe and thriving.

Our work focusses on HEALTHY WOMEN and SYSTEMS CHANGE and includes counselling and support services, healing and recovery after violence, health promotion, community violence prevention, professional education, capacity building, systems leadership and policy development.

Our work focusses on creating better outcomes for cohorts experiencing the highest rates of health disadvantage and inequality. We are a pro-choice organisation that supports people with diverse bodies, sexualities and gender identities. Our head office is located on unceded Jagera and Turrbal Land in South Brisbane, with many of our services spanning across the entire state.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Health Systems Development Officer, you will;

  • Drive systems-level change: Work with health practitioners, community organisations, and government agencies across Queensland to embed trauma-informed, gender-responsive, and intersectional practices into their work;
  • Empower those on the ground: Create and deliver practical resources, training, workshops, and engagement opportunities to support organisations to provide inclusive and accessible health care for women, girls and gender-diverse people;
  • Collaborate for results: Build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, bringing people and organisations together to tackle the root causes of health inequities; and
  • Evaluate and innovate: Use data and feedback to inform continuous improvement and measure the impact of the new initiative to drive real, long-term change.

This is an office-based role located in South Brisbane. It also involves external stakeholder engagement across Queensland, including virtual meetings, training delivery, and intrastate travel.

ABOUT YOU

You’re passionate about creating health systems that work for everyone, and you know that big change starts with strong relationships and practical action.

  • Systems-thinker and dot-joiner: You excel at identifying opportunities for systemic improvements and aligning diverse stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Facilitator and learning designer: You’re confident developing engaging training materials and resources tailored to a busy workforce. Grounded in adult learning principles, you design and deliver dynamic workshops that inspire, educate, and drive meaningful change.
  • Engaging communicator: Whether it’s a participatory workshop, a detailed report, or a big-picture policy recommendation, you know how to get the message across.
  • Culturally responsive practitioner: You have experience working with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and are committed to fostering culturally safe practices.
  • Purpose-driven collaborator: You align with WHEQ’s vision and values and are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of women, girls and gender-diverse people.

  • Competitive salary: Starting at Level 5-6 SCHADS [between $95,377-$106,389 per annum pro rata, depending on skills, experience and qualifications]. Further increase your take-home pay with the option to salary package up to $15,900 annually.
