The Working Women’s Centre SA Inc is a not-for-profit organisation and a community legal centre that provides a legal service to vulnerable working women and people. The Centre has three arms of work:

  • Legal Service – we provide legal advice and representation to vulnerable workers who contact the Centre with work issues through one-to-one clinic appointments. Clients may require ongoing advice and if so we also provide advice outside of these clinic appointments. We provide a representation service and have the capacity to represent a client through to the conclusion of a hearing.
  • Advocacy – we conduct advocacy to resolve systemic issues that affect women and other vulnerable workers, such as sexual harassment and precarious work. Our advocacy program is informed by our legal and education service.
  • Education – we provide fee-for-service and free training for workers and employers about workplace rights, sexual harassment, responding to disclosures of domestic violence and other topics.

The Centre was established in 1979 and has been advising, supporting and advocating for vulnerable women for 42 years. The Centre provides support, advice, information, and representation to women who face issues in their employment in both federal and state jurisdictions. The Centre is also concerned with the structural inequalities for women in the workplace, and conducts outreach, community.

Employment conditions are specified in the Working Women’s Centre SA Inc Enterprise Agreement 2021 however a new enterprise agreement will be approved prior to the successful candidate commencing. We are currently in a 4-day week pilot project.

WWC Australia – National Body

The SA Working Women's Centre (WWCSA) has recently been funded to establish the national body of the Working Women’s Centre; Working Women’s Centre Australia (WWC Australia). WWC Australia is funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) and its functions are:

  • Facilitate coordination and collaboration between working women's centres across Australia, including sharing best practice for delivering services to working women and developing shared resources such as factsheets or training resources.
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to the existing and new working women's centres to ensure consistent and recognizable branding and imagery for working women's centres;
  • Lead advocacy and industry initiatives to prevent workplace sexual harassment;
  • Research and analysis on systemic issues affecting working women; and
  • Contribute to policy debates about working women's rights and entitlements.

The QLD, NT and SA centres are established and the WA, NSW, VIC, TAS and ACT centres are to be established.

Funding

This position is funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

Mission

The Communications Officer will create and manage WWC SA and WWC Australia communications content in line with a communications strategy to advance gender equality and safety in Australian workplaces.

As a member of the Education and Advocacy team, the Communications Officer will use communications to support systemic improvements in the lives of working women.

Selection Criteria

Graphic Design and Materials Development:

  • Proven experience in creating and designing a variety of visual materials such as brochures, newsletters, reports, and digital content.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams to gather and ensure the accuracy and relevancy of visual content.

Branding and Guidelines Compliance:

  • Strong understanding and experience in upholding and enforcing branding guidelines across all communication channels and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and support to staff to ensure all communications are brand compliant and maintain a consistent visual identity.

Website Maintenance and Data Management:

  • Experience in updating and maintaining websites to ensure current and relevant content.
  • Ability to monitor website analytics and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Proven skills in troubleshooting and resolving website issues in collaboration with IT and web developers.

Content Creation and Management:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing content for various communication channels including social media, newsletters, and press releases.
  • Ability to ensure content is engaging, accessible, relevant, and tailored to the needs of the audience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other departments to source and create content.

Strategic Communication and Messaging:

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively to develop messaging and communication strategies aligned with broader advocacy and education goals.
  • Experience in designing accessible and effective supporter journeys through all communications.

Technical and Organisational Skills:

  • Strong organisational skills to maintain shared electronic communications files and ensure graphics, photos, and marketing content are stored and accessible to staff.
  • Ability to manage and build contacts and email lists of supporters and related data effectively.
