ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker provides support that is relevant, accessible and responsive to women and children who have been affected by family or domestic violence. A good understanding of the issues in relation to domestic violence is an essential skill for this position.
Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Client support (advocacy, court support, safety planning, referrals assistance)
- Liaison with WDVCAS partners/services
- Networking
- Community education
- Administration (data collection, reporting, maintenance of files)

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THIS POSITION
- Relevant training and qualification in community services, welfare and/or social services or equivalent work experience.
- Understanding of domestic and family violence, its complexities and consequences, particularly the effect of DV on minority groups such as Aboriginal or migrant women and their children.
- Ability to support women experiencing family and domestic violence through the criminal justice system, including AVO applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to establish rapport with women experiencing family and domestic violence to assess their safety needs and provide support, referrals and advocacy. Ability to provide culturally sensitive service, including the use of interpreters.
- Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, strengths based and person centred supports to women in crisis.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including strong computer and data literacy.
- Willingness to participate in internal and external supervision and attend professional development opportunities.
- Knowledge of child protection legislation, mandatory reporting and duty of care responsibilities.
- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check.
