Are you passionate about advancing the rights of women and girls with disabilities? Join Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA) as the Senior Manager, Policy & Advocacy and lead transformative initiatives in policy development, strategic advocacy, and human rights advancement.

WWDA serves as the national Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO) and National Women’s Alliance (NWA), advocating for the rights of women, girls, feminine-identifying, and non-binary people with disabilities across Australia. Representing over 2 million women and girls with disabilities, WWDA operates at both national and international levels.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Manager, Policy & Advocacy will play a pivotal leadership role, guiding WWDA's policy team and driving the development of strategic frameworks that promote gender equality and disability rights. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role requires close collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies and advocacy groups, ensuring that WWDA’s policy work reflects the diverse voices of its community.

This is a remote role in accordance with WWDA’s Working from Home Policy. The successful candidate will need to exercise considerable initiative, professional judgment and ensure alignment with WWDA’s strategic goals through regular communication with the COO and other internal WWDA staff when required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Lead and oversee WWDA's policy and advocacy programs.
  • Provide expert advice on strategic policy issues relevant to disability and gender equality reforms, including Government’s response to the Disability Royal Commission, Australia’s Disability Strategy, and the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children.
  • Manage and mentor WWDA's policy staff, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Engage with stakeholders across government, private, and community sectors to advocate for women and girls with disabilities.
  • Develop and contribute to high-quality reports, submissions, and proposals on gender and disability issues.
  • Represent WWDA in advisory bodies, committees, and international forums.
  • Promote WWDA's mission and build its international profile.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as policy, law or social sciences.
  • Extensive knowledge of Australian disability and gender equality policies, frameworks and legislative reforms.
  • Proven experience in strategic policy development, analysis and advocacy.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent WWDA at the national and international levels.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strategic partnerships and networks.

Desirable:

  • Preference for a woman with disability to fill the position.

Other Requirements:

The successful candidate must obtain a National Police check. A Working with Vulnerable Persons/Children check is encouraged, and they may undergo a Job Access assessment (Employee Assistance Fund) in line with WWDA’s Working from Home Policy and OHS obligation.
