We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Worker (or similar!) who is passionate and can help implement our Alternative Suspension program in Broken Hill.

About the role

Alternative Suspension is a program addressing educational disengagement and the underlying causes, establishing ongoing support pathways for young people and families, and planning successful returns to school for students currently on, or at risk of, school suspension.

The position is based in Broken Hill and work with the Youth Program Coordinator to implement Alternative Suspension and will also work on other youth programs and projects as required.

You will be comfortable working autonomously, be a creative problem-solver and work under minimal supervision at times.

You will also work and connect remotely with an amazing team of other youth workers, engaging regularly in continuous quality improvement and working together to ensure our programs have positive outcomes for young people.

Essential Criteria

• Experience working within a challenging environment and delivering group work and individual assessments
• Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services or related field
• Strong administration skills and use of technology
• Demonstrated ability working in a performance driven environment to meet performance targets and funding requirements.
• Understanding of current issues facing young people, particularly Broken Hill youth.
• Ability to work individually with minimal supervision and part of a team
• Confident to lead and participate in recreation activities.
• HLTAID012- Current First Aid and HLTAID001- Current CPR
• Working with Children Check (Employee)
• Current driver's licence with own car

Desirable

• 2 + years' experience working with vulnerable young people
• Demonstrated experience in group facilitation skills, assisting and supporting young people with complex issues, in group settings and one on one
• Experience in facilitating in sporting and recreation activities
