The Zahra Foundation supports women and non-binary folks affected by domestic and family violence, through programs and financial counselling services. By facilitating pathways into further education, training, and employment we empower our participants to break the cycle of abuse. We are one of the leading non-government, not for profit services in Australia providing trauma-informed Specialist Financial counselling and Programs for people recovering from domestic violence. Our tailored programs and financial counselling promote economic empowerment and support women and non-binary folk on the journey to recovery after domestic and family violence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Linker is:

  • A listening ear - someone who listens, believes, and affirms your experience, and helps you determine what part of the story to tell
  • A linker - someone who helps you determine your pathway, navigate your next steps, and helps you ‘link’ up the pieces of the system and link you in where and when you need it
  • A witness - someone who is there with you when the good or the bad news comes, and can share the celebration or help hold the system to account if it fails you
  • A guide - someone who helps you know what to expect, decide how you’ll approach it and build your confidence to face the system

Linkers work with clients, walking alongside people to map out tailored pathways forward, to find and engage with services and supports, and to link into peer networks.

ABOUT the team

The Zahra Foundation Economic Abuse Financial Counsellors are specially trained and accredited financial counsellors and accredited Domestic and Family Violence Specialist that understand economic and financial abuse in the context of domestic and family violence. The team provides specialist trauma and violence informed services to women and non-binary folk across Australia who are recovering or impacted by domestic and family violence. Working within an intersectional feminist, client-centered, strengths-based framework; the team uses professional skills to assist, support, guide, and advocate on behalf of participants that are in financial hardship due to being subjected to economic abuse.

Linkers from service organisations across SA are members of a Linker Network, coordinated by a Relationship Manager from The Wyatt Trust (Wyatt). The Linker Network comes together regularly for the purposes of providing person-centric pathways and support for clients, building a central knowledge base of services and supports, service and practice development, learning, and evaluation.

Key selection criteria (Knowledge, skills, experience, behaviours – Essential)

Qualifications / Knowledge:

  • Working towards or obtains a degree in social work (alternative human services bachelor's degree will be considered )
  • Case management (desirable)
  • Experience of working in a trauma-informed setting

Skills / Behaviours:

  • Experience of working alongside people with lived and living experience and a commitment to equitable participation and self-determination
  • Demonstrated experience in a community service organisation working with clients
  • Experience navigating government and NGO supports
  • Ability to work alone and with a ‘virtual’ team, and effective time management
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a collaborative environment
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Deep listening and observation skills, without judgement or interpretation
  • Determination, follow through and dedication
  • Computer literacy
  • Case management (desirable)
  • Ability to understand and apply systems thinking (desirable)

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a similar role
  • Experience of working in trauma-informed and violence informed settings
  • Applicants from outside of Domestic and Family violence field are encouraged to apply – As in-house and professional accredited Domestic and Family Violence training is offered to all staff

General conditions

Employment is subjective to a 6-month probationary period.

  • All employees are required to abide by the philosophies and principles of Zahra Foundation, as outlined in the organisational Code of Conduct.
  • All employees are required to have a current Australian driving license
  • All employees must have work rights in Australia
  • Appointment to this position will be subject to clearance from state and national police screening, vulnerable person, and child-related employment screening.
  • All employees who are appointed based on registration to an external peak or regulatory body are to maintain registration for the entirety of the employment, issues related to registration must be reported to the organisation within 5 working days of being known.
  • All employee clearance documentation must be kept up to date, and any changes to clearance must be notified to the Zahra Foundation within 5 working days.
  • All employees must utilise Zahra Foundation systems and software to ensure the quality of the organisation’s work and services are to a high standard.
  • All employees accept there will be outside of normal hours work from time to time.
  • All employees will comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation as outlined in organisational policy and procedures.
  • All employees accept and agree to work within the organisation’s policies and procedures, including compliance and quality frameworks.
  • All employees are required to engage in support, training, professional development and mentoring through the organisational performance development system.
