About the Role

The Circular Economy Programs Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Recycling and Waste Management Strategy 2018-2027 and assisting Council in meeting its objectives in relation to the Circular Economy.

The role is also responsible for coordinating and delivering initiatives in the waste and resource recovery sector in response to the changing needs and expectations of the Bayside community, and relevant State and Federal Government legislation.

As Circular Economy Programs Officer you will drive and impact Bayside's transition towards a circular economy. You will seek new opportunities and initiatives to that benefit the community, in line with Council's goals. You will work and collaborate with key stakeholders both internal and external to identify partnership opportunities and build influence across the organisation and community for innovative projects and strategies.

You will be responsible for

  • Responding to community enquiries regarding waste minimisation, recycling, and resource recovery.
  • Contributing to the development of publications, social media, and communication materials.
  • Identify funding/grants opportunities and prepare and submit submissions on behalf of Council.
  • Identifying innovative waste and resource recovery opportunities.
  • Instigate and maintain cross-council collaboration and knowledge sharing opportunities.
  • Coordinating necessary community engagement activities as they relate to projects impacting the community.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Understanding of current trends and emerging issues in circular economy, resource recovery, waste minimisation, and local government.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and analyse data to ensure an evidence-based approach to decision making and program delivery.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to undertake complex projects with many stakeholders.
  • Experience in the design, delivery, reporting and evaluation of community waste and/or resource recovery educations and engagement projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate in an effective and positive manner to enable organisational and community behaviour change.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and ability to articulate a complex message to inform and educate different audiences.

Mandatory pre-employment requirements

  • Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
  • Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check.
