The Dandenong & District Aborigines Co-operative Ltd (DDACL) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) which is governed by a community elected Board of Directors. We are seeking an approachable, HR Officer to work 3 days a week.
Position scope:
The purpose of this role is to provide generalist HR duties including assisting with recruitment, workforce planning, training and development, employee relations, employee wellbeing, performance management, Workcover, and employee benefits in line with organisational policies and procedures as well as government requirements.
Key Results Area Accountabilities
Operational HR Advice and Support
- Provide day-to-day generalist advice and assistance to Managers on a range of HR matters including but not limited to employee relations, Workcover, industrial matters, performance management, and policy compliance
- Ensure all employees have current and relevant employment contracts, current position descriptions, and work plans
- Organise training including booking venues for training, liaising with training providers, and other duties as required by Managers
- Maintain EAP and ensure managers/staff utilisation where applicable
HR Systems, Policies and Procedures
- Update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation to be approved by the CEO and upload into the risk management system LogiQc.
- Assist Managers with adherence to HR policies.
- Ensure the quality and compliance of HR documentation with appropriate storage.
- Develop HR reports as requested by management
Recruitment, Selection and Induction
- Assist Managers in undertaking recruitment activities including managing e-recruitment, HR Induction procedures, advertising, organising interviews, and all relevant employment documentation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant criteria.
- Maintain personnel files and database.
- Advise Payroll of staff movements within business and changes of terms and conditions of employment.
HR Projects
- Undertake HR development projects and activities that contribute to building a positive organisation environment.
Corporate responsibilities
- Attend general staff meetings
- Prepare reports as deemed necessary from time to time by the CEO and the Corporate Services Manager
- Function as a team member in close liaison with other staff
- Attend training as required
- Perform other duties relevant to the position as directed by the CEO and the Corporate Services Manager
- Professionally act at all times and ensure the confidentiality of employees
Workcover
- Assist Managers with worker’s compensation claims and Return to Work Co-ordination of Injured workers in the rehabilitation phase.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential Qualifications:
- Diploma or Cert IV in Human Resources Management
- 5 years of experience handling Human Resources
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge of and ability to work with the Aboriginal community: Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Victorian Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control. Demonstrated ability to work or learn to work with Aboriginal organisations, communities, and individuals in culturally appropriate ways as well as mainstream organisations
- HR experience: Demonstrated experience in a generalist HR role, preferably in a community focussed organisation/or Not for Profit environment.
- Communication skills: Highly developed written communication skills, with proven ability to prepare a range of documents including reports and general correspondence. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at all levels and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, characterised by co-operation, trust and mutual respect
- Confidentiality and impartiality: Demonstrated capacity to maintain sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and remain impartial at all times, in compliance with Privacy Acts.
- Computer skills: Excellent computer skills including in Microsoft Office suite (in particular Excel) and other software programs (including Learning Management and HR Systems) and the ability to quickly acquire working knowledge of new systems
- Initiative and accountability: Demonstrated initiative and accountability with proven ability to take responsibility for own actions.
Other Relevant Criteria:
- Completion of a satisfactory background and police check.
- Possession of or preparedness to obtain a “Working with Children Check” card.
- A current unrestricted Victorian Driver’s licence.
- Proof of full vaccination status.
- Must possess permanent Australian Residency.
