What you’ll do

The Boarding Hostel Manager is a critical position for a motivated and experienced individual responsible for the day-to-day operation of a student hostel, providing a safe and culturally appropriate environment for female students in years 7 to 12 attending the nearby school.

The Manager will lead a team to support the physical, emotional and spiritual development of the girls under their care. The Manager will be responsible overseeing the planning and supervision of students including a culturally appropriate after-school recreation program, as well as providing guidance and support to staff.

• Operate the Hostel as a 24/7 service
• Conduct and oversee community consultation to develop a service model that will reflect the voice and needs of the community
• Provide secure accommodation for school aged girls and women and accompanying children from all families/Clans as per service delivery model
• Work with Indigenous staff in developing training and/or safety plans for trainees and children returning including, where appropriate, to link with members of the community and organisations that can provide after support to women and children
• To be a supportive member of One Tree team based in Wadeye
• Work cooperatively and with clear professional boundaries

Selection criteria

• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to ensure information is conveyed clearly and accurately and enable the preparation of accurate, concise documents and reports
• Computer skills, use of Excel and Word
• Effective administration, time management and organisation skills
• Experience in customer service requiring efficient service delivery
• Evidence of problem-solving skills
• Experience managing a Boarding Facility or similar
• Experience working in remote Indigenous communities is desirable
• High cultural intelligence
• Experience managing, supporting and mentoring a team

Requirements and Qualifications

• Eligible to work in Australia
• A clear NT Working with Children Check
• Satisfactory National Police Clearance
• Vocational or tertiary qualifications in community services, training and/or Aboriginality
• Northern Land Council permit
• First Aid & CPR certificates
• A valid manual driver’s licence
