The global Fairtrade network also includes producer networks in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean, who are co-owners of the global system.

Fairtrade ANZ works in Australia & New Zealand to licence the use of the Fairtrade Mark and to grow sales of Fairtrade certified products by working with businesses, communities and consumers.

Fairtrade ANZ’s Producer Support team works in Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Pacific Islands, supporting producers to develop strong and resilient producer organisations and businesses with the central objective of the sustainable development of their communities.

The team gives guidance and training on certification requirements, helping producers to access Fairtrade markets. They facilitate relationships with buyers, liaise with support agencies and promotes the development of the regional Fairtrade network.

THE TEAM:

Fairtrade ANZ’s Producer Support team works in Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Pacific Islands, supporting producers to develop strong and resilient producer organisations and businesses with the central objective of the sustainable development of their communities. The team gives guidance and training on certification requirements, helping producers to access Fairtrade markets. It facilitates relationships with buyers, liaises with support agencies and promotes the development of the regional Fairtrade network.

THE ROLE:

The Gender, child protection and Producer Support role provides overall leadership, guidance and technical support to ensure that Fairtrade ANZ effectively integrates gender equality and child protection across its operations. They will also serve as a key member of Fairtrade ANZ's Producer Support team, responsible for coordination of Pacific producer support and capacity building services, project design, planning, implementation and reporting, research, as well as relationship building with relevant stakeholders in the region.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The gender and child protection component of the role will be to:

  • Oversee the mainstreaming of gender and child protection within Fairtrade ANZ’s operations
  • Chair the Fairtrade ANZ Gender Action and Learning Group and ensure that recommendations are carried out
  • Develop and roll-out a gender and child protection approach with small-scale producer organisations in the Pacific
  • Support the building of partnerships with relevant organisations which further gender equality and child protection throughout the Pacific
  • Act as Fairtrade ANZ’s key contact point regarding gender and child protection for broader engagement with the Fairtrade Network of Asia and Pacific Producers and the international Fairtrade system
  • As per Fairtrade ANZ’s Protection Policy for Children and Vulnerable Adults, serve as a protection focal point for Fairtrade ANZ
  • Oversee the implementation of the Gender of leadership school in Timor Leste and contribute to the fundraising proposals to replicate this pilot in other Pacific islands.
  • Oversee the development of female leadership and participation opportunities across all Pacific producer organisations
  • Oversee and pursue opportunities for increasing social inclusion within Pacific producer organisations

Under the overall guidance of the Program Manager, the producer support component of the role will be to:

  • Oversee producer support services in Samoa Producers Organisations certified Fairtrade and new products (such as ginger, pineapple and papaya) in Fiji
  • Assist the Producer Support team in ensuring the quality of periodic progress reports as well as annual work plans and activity schedules
